Cache: A Complete Guide to the Legendary Map and 3D Printed Model
Hey, gamers! Youngtendo from youngtendo.fun is back with one of the biggest comeback hits in Counter-Strike history – the 3D printed model of the Cache map from the latest Counter-Strike 2 version.
After a long seven-year wait, Cache is finally back. Valve officially returned it to Counter-Strike on April 28, 2026, and after much anticipation, the legendary map reappeared in CS2. In July 2026, another big step followed – Cache was added to the Active Duty Map Pool, replacing Overpass.
In this guide, we'll go through the map's history, its new design, the most important changes, and most importantly, a complete list of 43 callouts, which you'll also find on my 3D printed model. Let's get started!
How it all began
Cache has a slightly different story than most legendary Counter-Strike maps.
The original Cache was created by Sal "Volcano" Garozzo as a community map for Counter-Strike: Source. The first version was developed around 2010, and the final version was released in 2011. Later, FMPONE and penE participated in its development and visual redesign for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Cache gradually became one of the most significant community maps in Counter-Strike history. In 2014, it even became the first community-created map to enter the official Active Duty Map Pool. It remained there until 2019 when Valve replaced it with Vertigo.
And then began the long wait.
After years of speculation, Cache finally made its return to Counter-Strike 2. FMPONE was preparing the original CS2 remake, but Valve subsequently acquired the rights to the map and created its own official version for Source 2. The result is the Cache we find directly in CS2 today.
Cache's return to CS2
On April 28, 2026, Valve released the long-awaited return of Cache to Counter-Strike 2. The map was immediately available in Competitive, Casual, Deathmatch, and Retakes modes.
The new Cache retains the iconic basic concept of the original map – a fast three-way layout, an important Mid, and two bomb sites – but has received a complete modernization for Source 2.
Valve gradually adjusted things like clipping, materials, windows, collisions, visibility of certain positions, and other details. In May, various holes in the map were fixed, surfaces were adjusted, and grates were added to some windows. In July, Valve made further clipping adjustments before its entry into Active Duty.
And it was on July 8, 2026, that the moment players had been waiting for arrived – Cache officially replaced Overpass in the Active Duty Map Pool and became part of the Premier competitive environment.
Design and environment
Cache takes place in an industrial environment near Chernobyl in Ukraine. At first glance, it's clear that the main inspiration comes from abandoned industrial buildings, warehouses, containers, pipelines, garages, and infrastructure typical of the area around Chernobyl.
The new CS2 version retains the characteristic three-way layout:
- A Site – a more open bombsite with positions like Quad, Forklift, Balcony, and Rafters.
- Mid – the central part of the map, allowing control of rotations between A and B.
- B Site – a more enclosed area with Checkers, Heaven, Rafters, and Sun Room.
Cache is primarily known for fast rotations and the importance of controlling Mid. Whoever gains control of the middle can significantly influence the game on both bombsites.
My 3D printed version of Cache captures these characteristic parts of the map – from A Site and the iconic Forklift, through Mid, to Checkers, B Site, and all the main passages.
Interesting facts that will amaze you
Cache has several firsts in Counter-Strike history.
Its biggest interesting fact is that it became the first community-created map to enter the Active Duty Map Pool. This made it one of the most important community maps in the history of professional Counter-Strike.
The new CS2 version is not just a simple port of the old map. Valve has adjusted a number of details so that the map functions correctly in Source 2 and corresponds to current Counter-Strike.
Among the adjusted parts were, for example, Ebox on A Site, Checkers entrance, Sandbags, windows, clipping, and other parts of the map.
And that's why the new Cache is interesting even for players who know the old version by heart – the map is immediately familiar, but during detailed play, you'll find many changes.
Callouts – the key to victory
On Cache, proper communication is extremely important. Mid allows for fast rotations, and every second can decide whether the team manages to defend A or B.
On my 3D printed model, you'll find 43 main callouts that correspond to the current layout of the new Cache.

From Volcano's community project to FMPONE and penE's redesign to its return to modern Counter-Strike 2, Cache has gone through several generations of Counter-Strike. Its return in 2026 was therefore not just a simple addition of another map – it was the return of one of the most famous community maps ever.
And now it's back where it belongs most – in the competitive map pool.
As of July 8, 2026, Cache is part of Active Duty and has replaced Overpass.
